Schertz

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Monaghan on June 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his life and two daughters.

Born on July 16, 1960, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Patrick J. and Mary Theresa “Tessie” (O’Riordan) Monaghan, Michael was a proud first-generation Irish American. After spending most of his life in Alabama, he and his wife recently moved to Schertz, Texas to be closer to their daughters. He lived a life defined by service, strength, loyalty, and an unwavering love for his family. Above all else, he was a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy was being there for his girls.

A proud patriot, Michael dedicated his life to serving his country. He honorably served in the United States Army for 20 years as an Army Aviation Maintenance Officer and was a Gulf War veteran, retiring with the rank of CW3 at Fort Rucker, Alabama. His commitment to Army Aviation did not end with his military retirement. He and his family made Enterprise, Alabama their home while he continued serving for another 25 years in government and civil service, faithfully supporting the mission of bringing new aviation capabilities to the Army and those who served alongside him. His remarkable 45-year career reflected his dedication, professionalism, and enduring love for aviation and his country. He was also an active member and volunteer with the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Outside of his career, Michael had a passion for music. He loved attending concerts with family and friends, or happily going on his own. Somehow, he always managed to buy the cheapest tickets but still ended up backstage meeting the bands. He also found great joy in riding his Harley Davidson and cherished the lifelong friendships and sense of community that came with it.

Those who knew Michael will remember his unforgettable smile, kind heart, quiet strength, unwavering determination, and the way he made everyone around him feel welcome. Even through life’s greatest challenges, he faced each day with courage, dignity, and an enduring love for those around him.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Christine Monaghan; his daughters, Meagan (Clayton Foster) and Melanie (Joey Jones); and his soon-to-be-born grandson, Jonah Michael Jones, whom he was so excited to meet. He is also survived by his siblings: James J. Monaghan (Ret. Army National Guard) and his wife, Viola; Noreen P. Monaghan; Patrick J. Monaghan Jr.; Kevin D. Monaghan and his wife, Joanne; and Brendan G. Monaghan and his wife, Paula. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the Alabama and Boston, as well as in County Galway and County Kerry, Ireland.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing the impact Michael made and the legacy he leaves behind. Not only through his decades of faithful service to his country, but through the love, strength, and values he instilled in his family. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him, and we will carry him with us always.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Enterprise, Alabama, in the coming months. Details will be shared once arrangements have been finalized. We hope all who knew and loved Michael will join us as we gather to celebrate his remarkable life, honor his legacy, and share the memories that meant so much to him and to us.
